Apopka cemetery in grave condition gets spruced up

Facebook post helps local woman get results

APOPKA, Fla. – After driving by Plymouth Memorial Cemetery in Apopka day after day, Lanena Lang got fed up with how overgrown the cemetery was looking.

"It saddened me to drive by this cemetery and (see it) not being taken care of anymore," she said. "The grave sites are disappearing in the grass."

She posted her frustrations on Facebook, and in a matter of days, Lang organized an online community to help with the clean up.

"It all kind of happened really fast," said Kevin Lang, Lanena's husband.

"So amazed at all the members who have contacted me, and you know the group from the community that wanted to come out and help take care of it," she added.

But it wasn't just the community that came out to help; a lawn care company showed up at the cemetery as News 6 cameras were rolling. A worker with the company said they were cleaning it up at the request of the church responsible for maintaining the cemetery.

That church has not explained to News 6 why the cemetery got overgrown, but the Lang family is happy to see results from their online plea.
