Oviedo family claims worker sent by Bright House stole items

Seminole County Sheriff's deputies investigate incident in Wentworth Estates subdivision

OVIEDO, Fla. - A family has an alert for homeowners after they allowed a cable repairman into their home and expensive items disappeared.

Seminole County Sheriff's deputies are investigating what happened after a family said a cable worker was sent by Bright House Networks to their home at the Wentworth Estates subdivision in Oviedo.

The cable repairman came and suddenly their Bose sound system vanished along with an expensive pair of sunglasses.

"I think they just saw the opportunity, grabbed it real quick, walked out the door and came back in and finished the work and left," said Jeffrey Gay, who thinks the items were stolen by a repairman in seconds while her daughter was upstairs getting ready for work.

Gay called Bright House to report the possible theft and hoped to at least get an apology. Instead, she said she got "the runaround" and received no answers for three months.

The Sheriff's Office also failed to get answers from Bright House. Investigators sent a "subpoena for Neustar, Inc., requesting a copy of the work order and the name(s) of the Bright House service technician(s)," said a deputy's report.

"I think that they should be responsible, even if its a contractor," said Gay. "It makes you think twice about having people in your home."

A spokesman told Local 6, "Bright House Networks is cooperating fully with law enforcement," but deputies are still waiting for a response to that subpoena, at this point, the technician's identity is unclear.

The Sheriff's Office said it has not had other reports of similar crimes.
