Park-goers pack Disney World for New Year's celebrations

Parks reach maximum capacity; Park-goers post long wait times online

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Disney World was packed Wednesday with folks ready to celebrate New Year's Eve.

"We're going to meet up with a couple of friends of ours and go to Downtown Disney and see the fireworks," said Lindsay Baxter.

But not everyone made it into the parks.

"We're trying to go to Disney today but unfortunately, they're at capacity and we can't go," said Sherri Debnam.

Parks reached at maximum capacity and people took to Twitter posting the wait times for rides that exceeded well over two hours.

The Debnam's came all the way from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, just to spend New Year's watching the "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks display at Magic Kingdom.

"We were disappointed because this was the focus. We wanted to come and bring in the New Year's at Magic Kingdom, by the castle, taking pictures, fireworks, everything," said Debnam.

The Debnam's said if crowds don't thin out by the evening, they'll have to settle for plan B.

"We'll watch it I guess from our resort parking lot," said Debnam.

Disney streamed its fireworks display live on its blog, called Disney Parks Blog. The special New Year's Event presentation began at 11:35 p.m.
