Nikolas Cruz accused in attack on Broward sheriff's deputy

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz is facing new charges after allegedly attacking a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy in jail, News 6 partner WPLG-TV reported.

Three new charges are listed on the jail website, including battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or paramedic.

Other charges include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or paramedic and use of electric or chemical weapon against a law enforcement officer.

Details of the incident were not immediately known.

Cruz, 20, is charged with 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the Valentine's Day mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
