Hundreds gather at OIA to protest Trump travel ban

Rallies take place across country after president signs executive order

ORLANDO, Fla. – Rallies have taken place across the country since President Donald Trump signed an executive order limiting immigration from majority-Muslim countries on Friday.

In response to Trump's order, some community members in Central Florida organized a rally that took place Sunday at Orlando International Airport.

Rally organizers took to Facebook to spread the word and thank those committed to the cause.

"Thank you for standing with the Muslim community, and all immigrants here in the US and abroad. Trump's policies stand juxtaposed to our values— this is not who we are," organizers wrote. "The United States and Orlando stands with our immigrants. "

Training for the rally began around noon. Once training ended, protesters traveled to OIA to begin the event.

Organizers put emphasis on the word "peaceful," telling those participating that they can bring paper signs, but not to attach them to sticks or poles.

Orlando police said they worked with airport officials to ensure a peaceful protest. Officers estimated 500-1,000 people attended the protest.
