Performing arts center construction closes busy Orlando road

Rosalind Avenue shut down until February 22

ORLANDO, Fla. - A busy stretch of road in downtown Orlando was closed early Thursday to accommodate construction for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Workers shut down Rosalind Avenue between Anderson Street and South Street around 5 a.m.  It will remain closed until February 22.

City officials said the full road closure will allow the current asphalt surface to be replaced with steel-reinforced concrete.  The stronger pavement will be necessary for trailer trucks carrying heavy equipment into the loading dock of the DPAC, which is located off Rosalind Avenue.

While the closure only affects one block of Rosalind Avenue, heavy delays are expected in the area as drivers detour around the construction.

Message boards and signs have been posted along detour routes to help drivers avoid the area.
