Woman held hostage by barricaded man near University High School, deputies say

Incident believed to be drug related

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man held a woman against her will and barricaded himself at a home on Pinewood Cove, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

A woman called authorities around 7 a.m. Monday and said a woman she knows was being held against her will. When deputies arrived at the Pinewood Cove home, they tried multiple times to get the man to come out of the home and to release the woman, a news release said.

Deputies said they were able to speak to the woman at one point through a window but the man blocked her exit so she could not leave.

The man freed the woman and exited the residence when SWAT arrived on the scene, the report said.

The woman had drugs in her possession when authorities questioned her, deputies said. She told them she knows the man who held her captive. Deputies said they believe the incident is drug related.

As of 1 p.m., authorities were in the process of questioning the man.

The neighborhood is next to University High School. Monday is a teacher work day, and students were not on campus, according to Orange County Public Schools officials.
