Suspected shoplifter runs over woman outside Publix, police say

Victim's injuries not considered life-threatening after Ocoee crash

OCOEE, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit by a car, in what police are calling an intentional incident, in the parking lot of a Publix store in Ocoee, officers said Monday night.

The Ocoee Police Department is now looking for the driver of a red and black four-door Nissan, who took off from the scene after the crash, officers said.

The person was hit just before 6:55 p.m., at the store at 8863 West Colonial Drive.

Police learned of the incident and rushed out to investigate. The victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening. He or she is being treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The victim was trying to stop the driver from leaving the area, police said.

It's believed that the passenger of the vehicle had stolen items from Publix.

The victim was struck intentionally as the driver sped away, police said.

Authorities said surveillance video seen later in the week showed the driver and passenger of the Nissan inside the Publix before the incident took place.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call the Ocoee Police Department or report your tip anonymously with CRIMELINE.
