Pit bull shot, killed after attack in Orange County, deputies say

Deputies say pit bull owner fatally shot dog after attack

ORLANDO, Fla. - A pit bull is dead after being shot by the dog's owner after deputies say the pit bull bit the owner and his son.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on South Forsyth Road in Orange County.

Authorities said two dogs were fighting each other when the owner tried to separate the two, but was unsuccessful and bitten.

The owner's son tried to separate the dogs, but was also unsuccessful and bitten, deputies said.

The owner's wife then tried and failed to shoot the dog. Deputies said the owner then shot and killed one of the dogs.

Seth Godby was sitting in his backyard with his family when he heard the gun shots.

"I heard a couple loud sounds, like an aluminum ladder slamming, then fire trucks, cops, ambulance," Godby said.

Godby believes the dogs are new because he's lived on the street for six years and has never seen them before.

"I've never heard a dog or seen a dog in that house before until today," said Godby.

Deputies at the scene are investigating the shooting alongside Orange County Animal Control.

At this time, deputies said there are no charges from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

There is currently no information on the severity of the injuries.
