Homeless man identified as body in river

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Police are investigating a body that was found floating Sunday afternoon in the Halifax River.

Daytona Beach police said they received a call around 3:15 p.m. Sunday from someone at Halifax Sailing Association, which is right in Bethune Point Park about a body found floating in the river.

Police responded and were able to pull the body, which was identified as a man, to the shore.

Police said the man is in his 50s or 60s and is known to them as being homeless.

There were no signs of foul play and there were no signs of trauma. Police said they don't know how long he was in the water.

Police said the man is known to them and he's been arrested before for minor crimes, like open containers.

Police said they were not releasing his identity and the Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.
