Rebecca Carvajal is being charged for domestic aggravated child abuse and child neglect.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Osceola County Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman on Thursday after they say she struck a child's face with her belt.

29-year-old Rebecca Carvajal, of Kissimmee, is being charged with domestic aggravated child abuse and child neglect after deputies responded to a call placed by a relative of the 6-year-old girl who Carvajal allegedly hurt. Carvajal claims that she regularly disciplines the girl by spanking her with her hand or a belt, but several weeks ago, she accidentally hit the child's face with the belt.

The child had severe bruising around both of her eyes, but Carvajal did not seek medical attention for the child, police say.

Deputies notified the Department of Children and Families, who placed the child with another family member.

The investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending.
