Police: Man hit by stray bullet while driving on I-4

Police say man was hit by round fired from nearby neighborhood

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando police are investigating a shooting incident where a man was hit by stray bullet while driving on Interstate 4.

Police said the victim, Adelino Rodrigues, was driving west on I-4 near John Young Parkway on Saturday afternoon when he felt a sharp pain in his arm and later realized he had been shot.

While driving Rodrigues to the hospital, his wife observed the Orlando Fire and Rescue on the side of the road and stopped to get treatment for non life threatening injuries, according to police.

"He didn't ask for it...he wasn't expecting it," said Rodriguez's neighbor, Ryan Stran. "He's a nice guy... how do you avoid that situation if you're just driving down the street?"

An extensive area search for a gunman was conducted and police believe the victim was hit by a stray round from a nearby neighborhood, which was reported by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Rodrigues is from from St. Petersburg, and was visiting his daughter who is a star soccer player for UCF. He is expected to be okay.
