The incident occurred around noon at Lee Middle School.

Another student informed the school resource officer about the gun, which was found in the student's waistband when he was searched, Orlando police said.

"A student provided a tip to our administrators and school resource officer," Principal Howard Hepburn said in a call to parents. "The tip was acted on which resulted in detaining the student and securing the weapon."

The gun was described as a .25-caliber handgun with a magazine loaded with bullets.

Parents were alerted of the situation via a phone message from the school principal.

Police said there were no signs that the student intended to use the gun.

"Accidents happen though, even if he had no intention of hurting someone, accidents can happen, and that's still scary," said parent Genna Walters, who told Local 6 she was upset the teen made it inside the middle school with a loaded gun.

The student was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
