PORT ORANGE, Fla. - A knife-wielding would-be robber who had his T-shirt pulled over his head ran out of a Port Orange gas station after a clerk started throwing merchandise at him, police said.
The robbery attempt occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Citgo gas station at 201 Commonwealth Blvd.
According to police, the man, using his shirt to try to conceal his identity, entered the store and demanded cash. He then reached into the register and took some money, but the clerk started throwing things at him, police said.
The culprit, later identified as Steve Paul Larson, ran from the store, dropping the money and his knife, Port Orange police said. He was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and charged with battery and armed robbery.
Larson is being held at the Volusia jail with bond set at $10,000.
