Police seek man who escaped from ambulance

Man was being transported for mental evaluation, Sanford police say

SANFORD, Fla. - Police say they are searching for a man who escaped from an ambulance while he was being taken for a mental evaluation.

Sanford police said Tavares A. Lampkin was transported from South Seminole Hospital in Longwood to the Seminole Behavioral Health Clinic in Sanford around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Lampkin was being taken to the clinic for a mandatory 72-hour mental evaluation, said police. While being transported by ambulance, police said Lampkin escaped.

Police describe Lampkin as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Authorities said Lampkin was last seen running south from East 2nd Street and Bay Avenue wearing blue scrubs. Police said he was in possession of a pair of denim jeans and a black T-shirt.
