PALM BAY, Fla. - A woman was ticketed for leaving her dog in a parked car without air conditioning for nearly 40 minutes at the Brevard Community College Palm Bay campus , according to police.

Ana Marie Villalobos was ticketed for animal cruelty and inhumane treatment after reports of a small Maltese being left in a hot car Tuesday afternoon at the college campus on Community College Parkway.

The temperature outside was 93 degrees, with a heat index of 105, police said.

Villalobos left a small bowl of water inside the car, but the water was hot to the touch, according to police.

The dog, named "Cotton," wasn't seriously injured, but police said the animal was panting heavily in the car when they arrived.

Villalobos will appear in court in August.
