Port St. Lucie wildfire destroys 4 homes

Fire 90 percent containted, flames still visible

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 120-acre wildfire that started in at a Port St. Lucie County International Airport on Sunday has destroyed four homes, according to Florida Forest Service wildfire mitigation specialist Melissa Yunas.

Though the fire was 90 percent contained at Sunday at 7:30 p.m., Yunas says residents will still see some active flames glowing in the woods on Monday.

Officials shut down Indrio Road late Sunday afternoon as wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour fanned the flames and officials warned of smoke problems and down power lines Monday.

Drivers are urged to use caution.
