Pulse survivors plan to pay it forward, travel to Las Vegas

Gathering held Monday night for prayer, support for Vegas

ORLANDO, Fla. – Pulse survivors gathered Monday night at Lake Eola to show their support and send prayers to the people of Las Vegas. They said it was their way of paying it forward.

India Godman said when she saw what unfolded in Vegas Sunday night, it was a feeling she knows all too well.

"We just held each other like, 'Oh my God,' and it just took us back to June 12, 2016, at Pulse Nightclub. We're survivors for a reason," Godman said.

She said she was there at Pulse that night with her son. Both of them survived, and now they've become stronger together.

Monday night, they lit candles and shared their stories, praying for Las Vegas.

"Seeing people drop ... we just know that feeling," Godman said. "In the process of us healing, we want to help them heal, because it helps us heal."

"Those affected in the Boston bombing came down in the first week of our crisis and helped some of us go through what they already went through," said Enaki Mpire, with Pulse Orlando.

The small gathering Monday night wrapped up with a moment of silence and hugs, what they say are reminders of their growth as a community this past year.

"Our goal is to go to Las Vegas, if it's just a hug or holding their hand," Godman said. "We can truly identify what it is to hear a shot and not know where it's coming from."

Pulse survivors said they plan on traveling to Vegas in the next couple of weeks to lend their support to those that survived in Vegas.
