Purse-snatcher who attacked elderly couple arrested

Jacob Hert, 22, held on $20K bond

MARION COUNTY, Fla. - Marion County deputies said they have arrested a man whom they believe attacked an elderly woman and her husband in a purse-snatching.

Jacob Hert, 22, was arrested after Detective Wallace located him in a trailer park behind the Kangaroo station where the couple was attacked.

Roommates of Hert's told detectives he went running into the home Sunday afternoon, hid in his room and then told them that something happened at the Kangaroo store. He then shaved his facial hair and changed his clothes.

Detectives later found the shirt allegedly worn during the robbery.

The attack occurred in Kangaroo parking lot at Highway 441 and 35th Street at around 10 a.m. Sunday just after the attacker made a purchase inside the store.

Investigators said the couple had stopped for gas on their way to church when Hert grabbed the 81-year-old woman's purse.

The victim didn't let go and he dragged her to the ground, whipping her around as he tried to get the purse, deputies said.

According to investigators, the woman's 81-year-old husband jumped in and was also injured by Hert.

Hert is charged with strong-arm robbery and aggravated battery. He is being held on $20,000 bond.
