JACKSON, Tenn. - A dog narrowly escaped death at the pound today, all because his owner gave him up saying he was "gay".

That is according to a woman in Jackson, Tennessee that regularly visits the high-kill shelter to rescue pups.

"His owner threw him away bc he refuses to have a 'gay' dog!" she wrote. "Don't let this gorgeous dog die [because] his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He's in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!"

It turns out the owner apparently saw the healthy American Bulldog mix mount another male dog, and thought the dog was therefore a homosexual. However, displays like that are natural across dogs of all breeds and genders; it is usually a display of dominance, dog experts said.

Facebook came to his rescue after Gawker posted the story. Several people posted on the picture above, and many said they were willing to go down to the pound and rescue him. Some even offered to stand on line outside the shelter in the morning before it even opened to make sure he made it out alive.

This story has a happy ending; the dog is now safely in a new, loving home, according to The Tennessean.
