River of Life Church aims to raise money through pink toilet

Money will benefit children in Philippines

OVIEDO, Fla. – A pink toilet has been yard-hopping around Oviedo since Thursday, raising money for children in the Philippines.

It's a fun idea that a pastor at River of Life Church came up with. The pink toilet doesn’t flush, but it has raised more than $100 so far.

"I was kinda confused because I came outside from eating breakfast and I saw a pink toilet just sitting in my neighbor’s front yard," Austin Repaci said.

The toilet definitely raises eyebrows and comes with a sign that says, "You've been flushed.” If you lift the lid, a smiling face looks back at you.

"This year, we're raising money for two projects in the Philippines (and) one of them is for clean water,” pastor Michael Lenahan said. “People are dying every day because they don't have clean water. I just tried to think out of the box and I came up with a pink toilet."

People so far have been excited about the cause, officials from the church said.

"It like, pops," Repaci said. "Everyone is gonna go, ‘Why is there a pink toilet in your front yard?’ You know? I'm gonna donate, definitely."

If the toilet appears on your lawn, you have three options: You can pay the church $10 to remove it, you can pay $20 to have the toilet removed and nominate another house or you can spend $30 on toilet insurance, Lenahan said.

Toilet insurance means the toilet will never come back to your house, but you've helped by donating.

"We're only about 24 hours into the project,” Lenahan said. “We’re gonna go until we can and try to raise as much money as we can.”

The church hopes to raise more than $1,000.
