Sanford police to open substation -- inside church

Location will allow officers to work near downtown

SANFORD, Fla. – The Sanford Police Department will open a new substation Monday that will be located inside a church.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith will join other officers at a grand opening ceremony at Central Baptist Church on South Park Avenue.

Police said the location will allow officers to work on reports and other tasks while staying close to the city's downtown district.

Along with the grand opening, police will host Cocoa and Cookies with the Chief at 6 p.m. Monday at Magnolia Square on East 1st Street.
