SeaWorld's Antarctica ride to open in May

Local 6 gets peek at construction

ORLANDO, Fla. - SeaWorld Orlando's new Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is set to open in May, but Local 6 got a behind-the-scenes view of the construction so far.

Guests will enter at Penguin rock, which shows a mother penguin and her baby nestled under her arm.

"We want to show the love and the caring between a penguin family which has a lot to do with similarities between guest and their families," said Brian Morrow, Creative Director SeaWorld.

Morrow said guests will experience a one-of-a-kind ride and see ice through the eyes of the penguin. Morrow said the ride will be customized for each individual rider, allowing a family to ride together but choose different experiences.

"For instance, if I choose not to have a wild, thrilling adventure, I can choose a different ride profile more suitable for my family member," he said.

Guests will meet four species of penguins, but Morrow wouldn't say how cold the temperature would be inside, just that it will be comfortable for the birds.

"The moment we can take down the barrier between the guest and the birds, hopefully that epxerience will happen between all our guests."
