Hurricane Matthew curfew lifted in Seminole County

County leaders set curfew from 5 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday

SANFORD, Fla. – Seminole County has lifted the curfew set by officials in response to Hurricane Matthew hitting Central Florida.

The curfew, which was set for 5 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday by county leadership and law enforcement, was lifted at 2 p.m. Friday.

Seminole County officials said they still strongly encourage residents to remain off roads and highways, saying that more than 400 roadway incidents have been reported since midnight.

Power outages and flood hit Seminole County Friday morning as Matthew made its way through Central Florida.

A traffic light was out at County Road 419 and Primose Lane and CR 419 and Twin Rivers Boulevard just after 6 a.m., according to Oviedo police. Drivers should treat it as a four-way stop if signals are out.

State Road 46 was shut down at Lake Proctor Court in Geneva due to a tree across the roadway in wires just after 5 a.m.

Power outages and live wires were reported down in Oviedo on Friday morning as Hurricane Matthew lashed Florida. Oviedo Fire says they were experiencing multiple locations in Oviedo region of power outages and live wires down.

Meanwhile, flooding plagued parts of Sanford on Thursday, stranding vehicles as Hurricane Matthew lashed Florida.

The road was closed at 16th Street and Palmetto Avenue due to a tree in the roadway.

Sanford police said two vehicles stalled at 13th and Myrtle because of flooding. A vehicle was also in water at Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Elm Avenue, police said.

Several vehicles stalled on H.E. Thomas from Old Lake Mary Road to Airport Boulevard. H.E. Thomas is closed in the area.

Flooding was reported at the intersection of 5th and Avocado Avenue. High water was also spotted on U.S. Highway 17-92 and Oak Avenue, W. 18th and Holly Avenue and in the parking lot of Central Florida Regional Hospital.

A voluntary evacuation was also issued for residents who live in mobile homes, manufactured homes and low-lying areas, according to a county release.
