Manager shoots teen in suspected robbery attempt, deputies say

Teen shot in leg in Pine Hills, Orange County Sheriff's Office says

PINE HILLS, Fla. – A store manager shot a teenager suspected of trying to rob a store in Pine Hills late Thursday afternoon, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident started around 5:30 p.m. at Computers 4 Less on Pine Hills and Silver Star roads, near Evans High School.

The Sheriff's Office said the teen went into the store and broke some display cases, removing cellphones.

The manager chased the teen outside, where a scuffle ensued, deputies said. The teen got away, and the manager fired shots at him, the Sheriff's Office said.

The teen was shot in the leg and fled limped away, deputies said.

A 911 call was received a short time later from a nearby apartment complex reporting that someone had been shot. Deputies found the teen, who was treated before paramedics arrived, the Sheriff's Office said.

Trevor Cole said he just finished shopping when he had to drop to the ground to take cover.

"Next thing you know, all you heard was 'Pop, pop, pop, pop,'" Cole said. "I was standing right here and I was looking, I heard the first couple of shots, right, and we were trying to figure out where it was, and then we heard, 'Boom,' and we heard the glass, and that's when we were able to run."

"I seen a young guy running and the guy shot him in the leg," shopper Blanca Vasquez said. "I was like, uh, oh, that's it."

"He was jumping up literally saying, 'Please don't shoot me again,'" Cole said. "He was basically hopping on one leg across the street."

A perimeter was set up in the area of 2712 North Pine Hills Road. Orange County Fire Rescue officials said a lockdown was put in place at nearby Station 42 while deputies searched the area. That lockdown was lifted as of 6:45 p.m.
