Deputies release helicopter video showing police searching for suspects

SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford police have made an arrest in a shooting that hurt two people and prompted lockdowns at four Sanford schools and one polling place.

Anquan Collier, 19, was charged with attempted felony homicide in the Aug. 30 shooting.

Police received a 911 call at 2:15 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Country Club Drive and Anderson Avenue.

As officers responded, they found a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in the area of William Clark Avenue with injuries due to apparent gunshot wounds, Sanford police said.

The two victims were taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital. Police said they were listed in stable condition.

A Sanford police officer in an unmarked vehicle tried to block Collier, who was driving Deon Brown and Richard Scott, according to police. Collier then crashed his vehicle into the unmarked police vehicle in an attempt to escape, police said.

Police said Collier and Brown attempted run away, but Collier was found. Brown got into an occupied vehicle and directed the driver to drive away, but was arrested, according to police.

Scott was charged with possession of cannabis and Brown was charged with resisting an officer without violence, carrying a concealed firearm.

Scott bonded out of jail. Brown was granted a $7,500 bond.

Collier also faces charges of Florida delinquent in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony and firing deadly missile into an occupied conveyance, aggravated battery LEO with a deadly weapon (MV), flee and elude, resisting an officer without violence, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries/property damage.

A judge granted Collier a bond on some charges, but denied bond for some of the serious offenses.

Sanford Middle School, Goldsboro Elementary and Crooms Academy of Information Technology were placed on temporary lockdown for safety and security because of the close proximity to the scene, police said. Seminole County Public Schools said Journeys Academy was also locked down for 10 minutes due to the police activity.

The district said it notified parents of the brief lockdown via email. Authorities said Precinct 6 was locked down at 3:30 p.m. for about 15 minutes due to the gunman being in the area.
