SpaceX launches Falcon 9 rocket Monday from California

First of two scheduled liftoffs this week

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket Monday morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The private company's rocket will carry 10 mobile communication satellites into orbit. 

The launch is the first of two liftoffs SpaceX is planning this week. The company is also launching a Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday evening. The two-hour launch window opens at 6:53 p.m.

SpaceX will attempt to land the first stage of each rocket after this week's launches.
