ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - The driver who Florida Highway Patrol troopers said caused a crash in Orange County Saturday killing a married couple and seriously injuring their 14-year-old daughter could face charges.
Robert Rojas, 47, and Liliana Galvez, 47, were killed Saturday night in a crash at the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Barley Club Drive that troopers said was caused by Kevon David, 32, who was speeding.
Friends and family members told News 6 the couple started as high school sweethearts in Columbia and were married for more than 30 years.
"The family is devastated," family friend Michael Santos said. "They were perfect, a perfect couple."
The victims' 14-year old daughter was in the backseat of her parent's 2017 Kia when the crash happened. She was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Family and friends said she attends Glenridge Middle School and is going to recover physically, however, without both of her parents.
"She has two broken ribs, she’s pretty banged up and of course the psychological part of her knowing she lost both parents," said Santos.
Santos said the teen will be staying with other family when she's released from the hospital.
Troopers said David was speeding and lost control of his car, hit a curb, then somehow ran into the family’s car. He suffered minor injuries and, according to the crash report, alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
News 6 checked and found out several driving infractions for David dating back to 2006. He was cited as late as October of 2018 for speeding in unincorporated Orange County.
