Starbucks adds tipping to app

Customers can add up to $2 for tip

SEATTLE - Starbucks announced on Wednesday it would add a digital tipping feature to its iPhone and Android apps.

Starting on March 19, customers will be able to add a $0.50, $1.00 or $2.00 tip to their purchase before checking out. Customers can also choose to add no tip.

According to Starbucks, digital tipping was a top suggestion on the company's suggestion web site --

"We're thrilled to make the digital experience even easier and more rewarding for our customers and partners," said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer for Starbucks.

The coffee giant will also add a new "Shake to Pay" feature in the next update. Customers will be able to shake their phones to automatically bring up their personalized bar code to pay at Starbucks.

Starbucks says the new features will be rolled out to iPhone users first. Android app users will receive the new features "later this year."
