Crossing guard says man got into car after girl sought protection

LONGWOOD, Fla. – Seminole County deputies are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred Monday afternoon near an elementary school in Longwood.

Seminole County Public Schools said the incident involved a man walking with a first-grade student near Woodlands Elementary School on E.E. Williamson Road.

The crossing guard said they knew the man wasn't the student's father and as the two got closer, the girl ran to the guard and hid behind her as if she needed protection, according to school officials.

Officials said the man told the guard that he was a good person and he would never hurt the girl before walking away and being picked up by a four-door red car.

The incident was reported to the school resource officer on Monday night and deputies began investigating at the school on Tuesday.

Seminole County Sheriff's Office will have extra patrols in the area and the incident is being investigated. No injuries or physical contact were reported.

The culprit is described as white man possibly in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 165 to 170 pounds and with a badly pock-marked face.

There have been no other reports of similar incidents.
