SEBASTIAN, Fla. - An Indian River County man is safe despite a bout with power lines Wednesday afternoon.

Skydiver Rafael Ramirez, 28, was found caught in the power lines of the 7800 block of 126th Street in Indian River County, according to Indian River County deputies.

Ramirez was not hurt during the incident.

Ramirez told deputies that his 13,000-foot jump was interrupted by strong winds.

Ramirez said that he pulled his parachute at approximately 4,000 feet, but strayed off course after losing control. He told deputies that he got tangled in the power lines after he misjudged his landing while searching for a safe place to touch down.

Ramirez cut himself out of his gear, dropping a few feet to safety. Although Ramirez had a few small burns, he refused treatment and reported no other injuries.

"Indian River County is a known for its skydive tourism," Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said. "Thousands of safe jumps happen here every year. We are glad Mr. Ramirez was able to land safely and that we could help him today."
