Student struck exiting school bus

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. - An Atlantic High School student was struck after exiting a school bus, according to Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety officials.

Around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, the student attempted to cross the 3000 block of South Atlantic Avenue after getting off the bus.

According to witnesses, the bus had its flashers on and stop sign activated.

William Sullivan, 23, of Ormand Beach, failed to stop for the bus while driving southbound in his SUV.

Witnesses saw his vehicle strike the student.

The student's leg was fractured and he suffered other non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Halifax Medical Center.

Sullivan was issued traffic citations for passing a stopped school bus, failure to carry motor vehicle insurance, and faulty equipment.

So far, no criminal charges have been filed.
