Man suffers minor injuries

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Volusia County Beach Patrol officials said a man was bitten by a shark while surfing Sunday afternoon.

Officials said the 24-year-old man from Gulfport was bitten on his left foot. He suffered minor puncture wounds and a few lacerations, but officials said he did not need to go to the hospital.

Officials the shark bite happened near the Jetty at New Smyrna Beach.

It marks the eighth shark bite this year in Volusia County, according to officials.
