Suspect in custody in Daytona Beach carjacking of 82-year-old woman

Daytona Beach police search for Nissan Maxima

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach police say they have the woman, who they believe stabbed and carjacked an 82-year-old woman in Volusia County, in custody on Friday.

Police said they have found the suspected carjacker, Michelle Marie Tessier, 31, but not the 82-year-old victim's car.

The carjacking happened around 12 p.m. Friday at a Walgreens on Reed Canal Road near Ridgewood Road in South Daytona.

Daytona Beach police said the victim agreed to give the woman, who said she had a medical emergency,  a ride to the Walgreens from the Citgo gas station on Reed Canal Road.

When the women arrived at the Walgreens on Ridgewood Avenue, the woman stabbed the victim twice, pushed her out of the car and drove off, police said.

Daytona Beach police said the elderly woman pulled a large chunk of hair out of the other woman's head during the attack.

The victim was taken to Halifax Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents say the carjacking has them feeling nervous.

"Don't take advantage of other people maybe ask you have a dollar or two maybe here or there to help out but you know don't put somebody else's life in danger," said Sheila Weichy.

Police are still looking for a mid-90s Nissan Maxima with a spoiler and tag number 173 VJX. Contact Daytona Beach police if you have any information on the attack.
