Suspect named, sought in deadly Gainesville shooting

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department has identified a suspect in an early Monday morning shooting that left one man dead in northwest Gainesville.

Police began investigating after multiple 911 calls reported a shooting in the area of Northwest 12th Street. Upon arrival, officers said they found Verl Harmon, 27, dead in the courtyard of the Sunset Apartments, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told police that at least one suspect ran from the scene after shots were fired.

Upon investigating, police identified Marlun Lenard Williams, 29, of Gainesville and Orlando, as the suspect.

Williams is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 155 pounds.

Police said they believe Williams may still be armed with the murder weapon, and advised caution to anyone who may see him.

As officials work to determine Williams' location, they believe he may be traveling to Central Florida in a 1998 dark blue Ford Crown Victoria with Florida tag 044 RCZ.

Police are asking anyone who crosses paths with Williams to call 911.
