Suspected Oviedo mall shoplifters arrested after crash, police say

5 people arrested near Aloma Avenue and Dean Road, police say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A group of people suspected of shoplifting from the Oviedo Mall were arrested after ramming into an officer's vehicle then crashing near Aloma Avenue and Dean Road, according to the Oviedo Police Department.

Police said the incident began at Dillard's Tuesday afternoon when a special detail aimed at cracking down on theft at the mall noticed a 2014 Nissan Altima pull up in front of the store and three people got out of the vehicle while the driver, 18-year-old Daquez Warren, and another passenger stayed behind.

The three people ran out of the department store to the waiting car when they saw a security guard waiting at the door, an official said.

The getaway driver rammed into the back of an officer's patrol car while attempting to avoid an officer's unmarked vehicle  positioned to block the fleeing car, according to authorities.

An off-duty officer on Aloma Avenue and Dean Road saw the suspect vehicle approaching at speeds near 80 mph, weaving through traffic, the report said.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Warren attempted to squeeze between a Jeep and a Toyota Prius that were stopped in traffic, but instead crashed into both vehicles.

Warren, Roneishia Young, 18, Deliscia Diane Church,19, and a third woman were arrested after the crash. The third woman's identity was not released because her charges are a misdemeanor. A fifth person in the car was not charged, because police determined she had no involvement in the attempted theft or aggravated battery, according to the report.

A loaded firearm was confiscated from Warren's glove box, officials said.

None of the people involved in the crash were injured.
