Police clear man in suspicious incident at Winnie Palmer Hospital NICU

Hospital on alert after couple seen acting suspicious

ORLANDO, Fla. – Police say on Monday they have cleared the man who was spotted with a woman acting suspicious and trying to gain access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, prompting a hospital alert.

It happened Wednesday at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, and fliers have since been up alerting hospital administrators.

The flier has photos of a couple and names them -- Priscilla Perez and Francisco Sanchez Bermudes. It doesn't say what happened but asks people to be on the lookout, and if the two are seen, to call security immediately.

Police said on Monday they believe Bermudes was misled and made to believe that he was going to be father. Police believe Bermudes was there to see a baby his ex-girlfriend, Perez, had delivered, but there was no baby and no record.

Bermudes was cleared of any wrongdoing, but police say they are still investigating Perez.

Orlando Health officials told News 6 this week the couple was attempting to get into the NICU. The nursery specializes in caring for ill or premature newborn babies.

Hospital officials said the couple was either trying to see or pick up a baby they claimed had been transferred from Holmes Regional Medical Center in Brevard County. However, no record was found.

In a statement, a representative told News 6, "We can confirm that two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior attempted to enter the neonatal intensive care unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

"They were denied access to the unit based on the hospital's security protocols and immediately left the premises. These protocols are in place to ensure the safety of patients, guests and team members at Orlando Health.

"No patients at Winnie Palmer Hospital were harmed during this incident. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately notified law enforcement and our team members to be on alert. We continue to work with law enforcement to further investigate this matter."
