SWAT team responds to people barricaded in Melbourne home

Woman says she was held against her will, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. - A man whose actions prompted a four-hour standoff with Melbourne Police SWAT agents surrendered.

Melbourne Police SWAT agents responded to a house on Sandpiper Court, closing the road and evacuating homes.

At about 3:25 p.m., police received a call from a female who said she was being held against her will, police said. She was able to get out of the home, but it's not clear what started the incident.

The road was closed during the police response and some neighbors were evacuated. Brevard County Sheriff's Office assisted by providing an armored personnel vehicle.

At about 7:30 p.m., a stout man about wearing a red T-shirt and jeans exited the house, was handcuffed and taken away in a Melbourne police car.
