Real-world situations, obstacles used for training

ORLANDO, Fla. – More than 50 SWAT teams from around the world are in Orlando on Wednesday for a six-day tactical training and competition.

The Round-Up International event uses real-world situations and complicated obstacle courses to prepare and show-off law enforcement officers.

“Of course, the training is extremely realistic, again, most of the training comes from actual instances that have occurred from around the world. So when these guys come here they're doing training, it can be applied, it has been applied to real-word situations,” Orlando Police Department officer and Round Up spokesman Raul Rivas said.

Teams come from as far way Hungary and Jamaica, and several local teams like 2017 winners Alachua County Sheriff's Office deputies and Orlando police also participate.

The event not only features officers, but vendors with cutting-edge equipment, guns and gear that could be used in dangerous situations.

One vendor had a snake-like camera system that could climb stairs, flip over and be the “eyes” when officers encounter barricaded people.

Organizers said the event not only helps teach the best ways to protect the community, but also the men and women who serve.
