Taxi cab hits 2 women in Orlando, killing 1

FHP: Driver said he never saw pedestrians crossing road

ORLANDO, Fla. - One woman was killed and another was critically injured when they were struck by a taxi cab late Monday night while crossing an Orlando roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ada Burgos Vazquez, 53, of Orlando, was killed in the crash, which happened around 11:30 p.m. on South Orange Blossom Trail near Landstreet Road.  A 45-year-old Orlando woman whose name has not been released was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

According to the FHP, the women were not in a crosswalk and ran across the roadway into the path of the cab.  The front of the vehicle struck both women, troopers said.

The cab driver, who was not transporting a customer at the time of the crash, said he never saw the women in the road, according to troopers.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but test results are pending, the FHP said.

An investigation is ongoing.
