SANFORD, Fla. - A teenager skipped the barber shop and let the mayor of Sanford chop off 2 feet of his hair -- all for a good cause.

Jeffrey Hepburn waited six years for his hair to grow out before cutting it all off during an event in Sanford Monday night.

"It feels really weird because I'm so used to feeling a little weight going down the back of my head and now it's gone," the 17-year-old said.

With the weight lifted, Hepburn said he plans to donate his hair to the nonprofit organization Locks of Love.

"I was going to get my hair cut anyway," Hepburn said, "It might as well go to somebody who needs it more than I do."

According to the charity's website, Locks of Love provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
