Teen killed in hit-and-run crash in Osceola, troopers say

17-year-old boy was walking on Orange Blossom Trail

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A teenage boy died after being struck by a vehicle in Osceola County on Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joyvan Ventura Villafane was walking on the right paved shoulder of Orange Blossom Trail near Hope Street around 9:40 p.m. when a vehicle left the road and hit Villafane, according to a news release.

"Nobody stopped?" asked the boy's aunt, Jessica Ayala, in disbelief.

Ayala said the teen was about to enter his senior year at Poinciana High School. Now, instead of planning for his future, his family is planning his funeral.

"It is something that you cannot believe. It is something like a nightmare," Ayala said. "I want to believe there's a heart in everybody, but when you see something like that, you cannot think how a person can do that to a 17-year-old boy without any regret. Without any remorse. Nothing."

Troopers said the driver left the scene without stopping to help Villafane. The vehicle may be a dark-colored SUV or sedan with damage on the right side of its front end.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Crimeline or FHP at 407-737-2213.
