Thief snatches jewelry from woman's neck outside Orlando Publix

Police search for culprit

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando police are searching for a robber who stole a woman's jewelry outside a Publix supermarket.

According to an Orlando police report, a man snatched Sheena Shepherd's white gold chain from around her neck in the parking lot of a Publix at 4600 S. Kirkman Road on Sunday shortly after 11 a.m.

"I was just frightened," said Shepherd, who couldn't believe how quickly the robber was able to take off with her necklace. "It was very sentimental because it was my cross."

Shepherd says she was just outside the store's entrance, when she saw a man hop out of the passenger side of a van and walk toward the front door.

"I was just moving out of his way and he just walks up, snatched my necklace and this elderly lady walked up right after he snatched the necklace and she goes 'are you ok?'" said Shepherd.

Shepherd says she was in shock but had the presence of mind to get a good look at the van's license plate and make a note of it on her phone.

According to Orlando police, that's when they discovered the license plate belonged to a stolen white 2009 Toyota van from Orange County.

"He's done it before and he's going to do it again if they don't catch him," said Shepherd.

Shepherd described the suspect as about 5 feet 6 inches tall in his early 20s.  He was last seen leaving the Publix parking lot in the stolen vehicle.
