TITUSVILLE, Fla. - A man suspected of killing a Titusville woman and dismembering her body told another man, who is also facing charges in the incident, about the slaying, according to Local 6 news partner Florida Today
William L. Weber was arrested Monday on accusations he tried to sell three bracelets, worth about $130, at Value Pawn, 515 Cheney Highway. Police said those bracelets belonged to Michelle Renee Chappell, 41, who was found dead Saturday at a home in the 200 block of Avilez Boulevard.
According to a report for Weber's arrest, the bracelets were sold about 4 p.m. the day of Chappell's death. It says Weber told investigators the pawn shop paid $130 for two of the bracelets and he was paid $30 for the transaction by the homicide suspect.
Weber "acknowledged that during the ride in the vehicle the suspect talked about killing and the show, ‘Dexter,'" the report reads. He said "he was also present while the suspect told what he had done to the victim of the homicide and offered to be shown the body of the victim."
‘Dexter' is a Showtime cable television drama that tells the story of a police blood-spatter analyst who is also a serial killer. The show is set in Miami.
Titusville police said the suspect, Christian Joseph Murphy, 21, was killed in a crash in Camden County, Ga. after he and a 15-year-old runaway fled the area in a car taken from Chappell's home. Police said Murphy and the teen were fleeing police at the time they crashed.
The 15-year-old girl has been charged in the Murphy' death. Police followed the car along Interstate 95 from Florida to Georgia and she eventually lost control and crashed near Woodbine -- about 50 miles north of Jacksonville, Fla. Murphy died in the crash and The Florida Times-Union reports authorities have charged the girl with homicide by vehicle, fleeing and attempting to elude police and receiving stolen property.
The girl is being held in the Regional Youth Detention Center in Waycross.
