Titusville woman rescues stranger's pet pig during Hurricane Irma

Facebook post helps woman find pig's owner

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – As Hurricane Irma huffed and puffed, a little piggy went wee wee wee all the way to Terri Diggs’ front yard in Titusville.

The winds were just picking up Sunday evening when Diggs said she spotted the pig, and the big ol’ girl was lost, confused and absolutely terrified.

Diggs, who lives just off Garden Street, isn’t exactly in a rural area, so finding a pig in her front yard isn’t something that happens very often – or ever, for that matter. It was, she said, the strangest thing.

Diggs was letting her dogs outside when she noticed a shadow by her mailbox. She called her daughter, Olivia Diggs, out because she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“No way,” said Olivia to her mother.

The two started calling out, “Here piggy piggy!”

“Sure enough it came right to us,” said Terri. “The poor thing was petrified.”

This wasn’t a wild boar, though, this was someone’s pet. The pig clearly was looking for someone to care for her.

But it wasn’t easy. She was spooked and began running all over the front yard. Olivia got some bread and lured the big girl into their garage. They weren’t so sure about bringing her inside with their three dogs, so this would have to do.

“She made herself quite at home,” said Terri. “She took all my clean towels and made herself a bed.”

Terri snapped a photo of the pig and took to Facebook. She posted it in a popular Titusville group on Facebook asking if anyone had lost their pet pig.

The comments poured in. Some of them jokes, others from those who were very concerned. Dozens of people were tagged in the post, showing that there are indeed quite a few pet pigs in Titusville.

Eventually Jonny Blythe saw the post. It was his baby. He had bottlefed "Breakfast" the pig as a baby and she is part of the family, he said. The storm blew his screen door open and the pig got out. Because a portion of his fence had blown down, she was able to escape and "so she took an adventure," he said.

He asked Terri to keep “Breakfast” his pig overnight through the storm. He had small children at home and couldn’t come get her during the storm.

She did.

The next day, Blythe and his family were reunited with Breakfast and the little piggy went all the way home.
