Toddler found wandering near traffic; Mother arrested

Edgewater police arrest 27-year-old Brianna Cable

EDGEWATER, Fla. - A 27-year-old woman was arrested in Volusia County after her 2-year-old son was found wandering near traffic, according to police.

Brianna Cable was arrested Tuesday in Edgewater on child neglect charges.

According to Edgewater police, witnesses said they saw the child wandering on a sidewalk and nearly walk into oncoming traffic.  A Good Samaritan stopped and helped the child before calling 911, police said.

About 20 minutes later, Cable came out of a nearby apartment, said police, who added that she appeared to be impaired and was not able to care for her son.

Police said her home had a strong odor of animal feces and was in disarray.  Police also said there was an "insufficient" amount of food in the home.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified and the boy was placed in the care of family members, according to Edgewater police.

Cable was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
