Troopers identify drivers involved in 2 fatal accidents in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol have identified the drivers in two separate accidents Sunday evening that left two people dead.

The first accident happened on Turkey Lake Road at Crestlake Drive at 6:05 p.m. Sunday.

24-year-old Patrick Tahaney of Windermere was driving his 2006 Dodge Charger northbound on Turkey Lake Road when, for an unknown reason, troopers said he lost control of his car and went off the road.

He traveled through several yards, struck a fence and two trees and died at the scene, troopers said.

Chad Siplin, 25, a passenger inside the Charger, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Ryan Siefker, 22, another passenger suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and it's not clear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The second accident happened after police were dispatched for a call involving a red vehicle stopped on John Young Parkway in the turning lane to Interstate 4 east.

Police arrived at the scene along with firefighters and noticed the 20-year-old driver from Mascotte was reclined in the seat. An officer that approached the vehicle on foot checked on the driver, who appeared disoriented.

The officer asked the driver to get out of the vehicle, but police said the driver did not comply and drove off, causing a minor crash with a vehicle in front of the officer and firefighters.

The vehicle then sped off south on John Young Parkway while the officer was still on foot, police said. By the time the officer got back to his vehicle and began traveling south on John Young Parkway, police said he noticed a fire further down the road.

The red vehicle crashed into a minivan on John Young Parkway between Cathy Street and Millenia Boulevard, causing the minivan to catch fire, according to police.

There were multiple people inside the minivan, who police said were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Those inside the minivan said they didn't even know what happened.

Troopers later said there were six people in the minivan, including the driver. They all only had minor injuries.

The driver of the red vehicle, 20-year-old Alex Gomez-Guerrero of Mascotte,  was ejected and died at the scene, police said. Troopers have not released his name, pending notification of his family.

Witnesses said the red vehicle sped by them on John Young Parkway and crashed into the minivan, and at no time was a police car behind the red vehicle.
