Troopers looking for car involved in deadly hit-and-run

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol troopers are looking for a car they said was involved in a deadly hit-and-run in East Orange County.

Troopers were called to the area of East State Road 50 and Lake Pickett Road around 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of an accident.

Troopers said a car driven by 49-year-old James Alpaugh of Titusville, was heading east on State Road 50 alongside another unknown car.

Nicole Brennan, 21, had stepped out of her car after she was involved in minor crash. Troopers said Alpaugh struck Brennan when she stepped out of her car.

The second car, described as a red minivan, then hit Brennan and dragged her into the intersection at Lake Pickett Road.

Troopers said Alpaugh and the unknown car took off after the crash.

Alpaugh returned to the scene of the accident around 5 a.m. where he was arrested for leaving the scene of the accident.

Troopers said the unknown car may have damage to the bumper and undercarriage and are asking anyone with information to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
