UCF police warn of possible drug-related robbery at off-campus apartment

Police believe victims were targeted

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida Police Department is warning students about an armed robbery at an off-campus apartment complex on Wednesday that might have been drug-related.

Police said the two victims were at their third-floor apartment at Pointe at Central around 7 p.m. when two men entered through the front door, which one of the victims had left unlocked while he retrieved something from his vehicle, the report said.

One of the men had a gun and the other did not. Police said they held the victims at gunpoint and made them empty their pockets.

The men stole a wallet, $90 in cash, a black Playstation 4 with four controllers and five games, a black iPhone 7 and a black backpack, police said.

The victims waited an hour before calling police because the men told them not to "try anything stupid" and because a tracker on the victim's iPhone indicated that they were still in the area, according to the affidavit.

Authorities provided a picture from a surveillance camera showing a woman who entered the complex before the robbery and who might have spent time in the apartment in the past, the report said. She is considered a person of interest.

Police said they believe the apartment was specifically targeted and there is no imminent threat to the residents at the complex or the campus community.

"Selling and buying illegal drugs invites crime into our community. If you have information about this type of activity, you can report it anonymously and be eligible for a reward by calling Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS," the department said in a news release.
