VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A wanted man accused of battering his pregnant girlfriend wrapped himself in a blanket and jumped through a closed window as authorities were preparing to arrest him, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said on Dec. 3, the victim reported that her boyfriend, Stefan Short, pushed her to the ground and threw her cellphone and glasses into a bush during an argument. Short also attacked a neighbor, who he suspected was romantically involved with his girlfriend, the report said.
The victim, who is three months pregnant with Short's child, suffered a cut to her lip and the neighbor suffered cuts to his face, arms and legs, according to authorities. The victim said Short was suffering from drug withdraw and she believed that could be an explanation for his behavior, the affidavit said.
Deputies said Short ran away from the home on Spring Street in DeLeon Springs before they arrived and they weren't able to find him until two days later when he returned to the home.
Short, who was completely wrapped in a blanket, ran into a bedroom when deputies arrived then moments later, jumped headfirst through a closed window, shattering the glass, according to authorities.
Body camera video shows a deputy who had been waiting outside of the home immediately approached Short, drew his weapon and demanded Short get down on the ground.
Still wrapped in a blanket, Short complied with the deputy's demand, video shows.
Short was arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and battery.
